ahedd DIH was presented at the Data Week 2024 during the Data Spaces Symposium, on Tuesday, 12 March 2024 in Darmstadt, Germany.
Denia Kanellopoulou, AI Innovation Expert at ahedd Digital Innovation Hub, participated in the session “Engaging SMEs & start-ups in Data Spaces“, sharing insights on how ahedd fosters an open cross-thematic innovation ecosystem by leveraging AI, Big Data, and IoT to drive the digital transformation of Greek SMEs. She highlighted the hub’s role in enabling AI-powered applications, coordinating initiatives like Smart Attica EDIH and tackling challenges such as low digitalisation and lack of skilled AI professionals in Greece.
During this session, participants explored the value of i-Spaces and Federation models, and their role in facilitating collaboration, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable growth for SMEs and start-ups. Attendees also gained insights from European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) specialising in data and AI and explored their strategies and initiatives designed to empower SMEs and start-ups.
What are Data Spaces?
Data Spaces are the main instrument in the European Data Strategy to achieve a full Data Economy and increase the quantity and quality of data able to generate responsible AI applications, while maintaining the data sovereignty. However, Data Spaces face several challenges, such as creating sustainable business models, integrating SMEs into the data ecosystem, ensuring data quality, addressing data ethics issues, navigating data and AI regulations, and improving skills across sectors.
What are i-Spaces?
i-Spaces are dynamic ecosystems focused on data and AI innovation and experimentation, providing computing power, tools, ethics guidelines, business models and creating a trusted environment for collaboration, primarily with SMEs and start-ups.
i-Spaces have federated themselves with the vision of being the reference for experimentation and innovation with industrial, public and personal Data and AI technologies following the European, national and regional values and principles, creating a global pan-European federated catalogue that accelerates the evolution and adoption of data-driven innovation and AI Technologies and regulations in Europe by facilitating a safe, trustworthy and regulatory-compliant environment for cross-border and cross-sector data-driven experimentation.
