SMART-CITY TESTBED

SMART-CITY TESTBED

The campus of NCSR Demokritos, hosting ahedd, is located at the bounds of Agia Paraskevi city, 10 km from Athens city centre and on the hillside of Hymettus mountain. The facilities cover approximately 61 hectares, with 3.5 hectares of buildings spread in a woodland setting. In this campus, more than 1,000 researchers, engineers, technicians and administrative personnel work in offices, laboratories or in the maintenance of the campus, and thousands of visitors are admitted every year for school visits, conferences and business meetings among others. The European Investment Bank is currently co-funding the renovation of the campus setting the grounds for the deployment of smart capabilities. This environment acts apparently as a small-scale city-like infrastructure and is ideal for simulation and testing of innovative smart city applications.

Synaisthisi IoT Platform is a high-availability, scalable, distributed and cloud-based platform that:

  • enables networked devices to easily interconnect through intuitive interfaces

  • enables businesses to increase their revenue from the development of new services and reuse of current assets
  • allows your applications to always follow your ongoing business needs

SOCIAL WEB OBSERVATORY PLATFORM

SOCIAL WEB OBSERVATORY PLATFORM

The Social Web Observatory (SWO) platform is a tool that monitors information diffusion across various sources that it can access, such as news sources on the Web and user-generated content (comments and posts) in the social media. SWO treats this information as actionable knowledge by listening for the public sentiment for a specified entity over time and across real-world events that trigger its generation and/or diffusion. The free version of the platform allows users to search, explore, experiment, analyse and uncover new data-driven insights, data-driven ideas from the social web. Registered users are able to create dashboards, analyse and visualise the retrieved social web data. Customised/personalised versions of the platform can also be created and provided on-demand in order to address business- or user-defined needs.

5G TECHNOLOGIES TEST-BED

5G TECHNOLOGIES TEST-BED

NCSR Demokritos is a member of the Athens5Glink initiative which aims to act as an integrated large-scale end-to-end testbed for the experimentation on 5G and future network technologies. The testbed will be openly accessible to the 5G community for real-life demonstration, validation and assessment of cutting-edge technologies. The campus of NCSR Demokritos covered by five software-driven 5G wireless nodes and supported by an optical backbone is one of the two testbed sites of Athens5Glink.

ANTENNA MEASUREMENT SERVICE PROVISION

The antenna measurement facilities of NCSR Demokritos include an RF-shielded anechoic chamber, which is a unique measurement infrastructure in Greece and is currently used for the determination of antenna characteristics. The measuring equipment includes Vector Network Analyzer (300 kHz – 9 GHz), Spectrum Analyzer (9 kHz – 40 GHz), RF signal Generators (5 kHz – 40 GHz) and various sets of reference antennas (from 80 MHz up to 40 GHz). This infrastructure is used for the provision of specialised services to companies and research institutes involved in the design, development, testing and support of wireless network infrastructures.
