The campus of NCSR Demokritos, hosting ahedd, is located at the bounds of Agia Paraskevi city, 10 km from Athens city centre and on the hillside of Hymettus mountain. The facilities cover approximately 61 hectares, with 3.5 hectares of buildings spread in a woodland setting. In this campus, more than 1,000 researchers, engineers, technicians and administrative personnel work in offices, laboratories or in the maintenance of the campus, and thousands of visitors are admitted every year for school visits, conferences and business meetings among others. This environment acts apparently as a small-scale city-like infrastructure and is ideal for the simulation and testing of innovative smart city applications.
The European Investment Bank is currently co-funding the renovation of the campus setting the grounds for the deployment of smart capabilities (click here for more details).
ahedd orchestrated the creation of Giga Campus, a joint venture of NCSR Demokritos and Vodafone aiming to support the acceleration of Greeceās digital transformation through the use of Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G technologies. Giga Campus is a model living laboratory of exponential technologies that act as a test-bed for experimentation and will be available to SMEs and public administrations through ahedd (click here for more details).
Fuelics has utilised NCSR Demokritos campus as a digital playground in order to provide water management applications, by introducing a highly accurate measurement system empowered by Fuelics electronics. Moreover, in the context of the DIH-World project, Fuelics designed and developed a rechargeable NBIoT battery sensor with the ability to measure humidity, temperature and accelerations in addition to providing positioning data (click here for more details).
